Sauna Club Vs Eruption

Chris O'Brien

DDT Tag matches don’t tend to miss, so standing out among what is possibly the best tag scene in the world is a big deal.

The best thing here is the forward momentum, even though matches will naturally have peaks and troughs this match doesn’t feel like it’s ever stalled, there’s a constant feeling of moving forward that makes this match a breeze to watch.

Big bombs are hit early, after an opening sequence that saw Mao out manoeuvre Higuchi but Higuchu overpower Mao and Sakaguchi kick the soul out of Mao, Soup comes in and knocks Sakaguchi to the apron, where he revives a package piledriver from MAO.

This lead to a stretch where Higuchi was the lone man in the ring fighting off the challengers. Despite being easily the biggest man in the match he was oddly sympathetic in this spell, Sauna club ran through a collection of double team moves, when Higuchi managed to over power them only for Sakaguchi not to be in the corner it was kind of sad.

When Sakaguchi did get in there was some cool stuff, Mao became the isolated party and parcored his way around Eruption. A highlight of this was his counter out of the Sakaguchi armbar. He kinda just Mao’d his way out of trouble.

This match flowed like a river, each major sport went so naturally into the next. I never felt any sort of tonal whiplash once, everything just fit into each other very well. It’s a quality I adore in tag wrestling pulled of very well here. If you don’t watch ddt, I can’t recommend the tag scene enough. There’s not a ton to say, this is just a banger.
